Hello and welcome to our webpage.
We are Greece Class. Mrs Peake, Mrs Mbikayi and Mrs McCulloch will be helping us with our learning this year and they can’t wait to get going!
In Greece Class, we promote a safe and nurturing learning environment, where children are encouraged to try their best and challenge themselves on a daily basis. Our aim is to ensure that all children enjoy their learning and feel happy to come to school, whilst making good progress in all areas of the Curriculum.
Our Autumn term topics are:
Term 1 – London’s Burning
Term 2 – Bonfire Night (one week mini topic)
During Term 1 we will write diary entries, postcards and instructions, as part of our learning about our class country – Greece.
Additionally we will be learning all about the Great Fire of London and the effect it had on the landscape of our capital city. We will use different sources of evidence, as well as using Google Earth to visit Pudding Lane, where it all began. We will bake our own bread and be visited by a fire fighter, who will explain the difference between fighting fires today and in the past.
During this topic will shall be looking back at the Victorian time period and comparing several aspects with our lives today. We shall look in detail at the toys that were played with and what school life was like – the children will even have chance to dress up and experience a typical day for themselves. We will be visiting Whirlow Hall Farm during this topic, where we shall learn about Christmas during the Victorian time period, including how homes were decorated and how many Christmas traditions first began.
In our English lessons we shall be writing diary extracts, recounts and narratives.
PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child has an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school (including pumps).
Homework will be handed out each Friday and will be collected the following Wednesday. Your child will also receive weekly spellings that will be tested on a Friday. They will bring home a school reading book – a little bit of reading each day will significantly help your child with both their reading and writing in class. Any support with this will be gratefully received.
In Greece Class we use an app called Seesaw which allows Mrs Peake and Mrs Mbikai to share photos, videos and notes about your child’s daily learning. All you need to do is download the free app and scan the letter your child will bring home. If the letter gets lost for any reason, just give us a shout and we can print you out a new one.
